Does Voting Really Make a Difference?

Yes it does. There are very few voters in our area of Jersey City right now (Ward E). There are far more voters in other wards. Since all wards vote for city-level offices, those other wards have more voice in choosing who runs Jersey City. Those are the people deciding who you will trust to create new parks, reduce property taxes, and keep our neighborhoods safe and clean. Each ward has different concerns, and let's face it - if we want lower property taxes or a park in our neighborhood, the other wards aren't going to speak on our behalf to get those for us.

If we want to focus on needs in our own neighborhood, it's really important that we all vote.

What will I see on the election ballot?

If you have successfully registered, you will receive a sample ballot in the mail. It will show you how candidates, parties, and offices are broken out on the real ballot. It will also outline the questions that will appear on your ballot.

What can I expect at the polling place?

You should expect to wait in line until a poll worker is able to check your name and signature against the voter rolls. They will give you a little slip of paper which you will sign. You will then proceed to give this slip to another election official who will show you to the next available booth and help you draw the curtain. You can make your selections, press the button to record your vote, and you're done!
