  1. Identify two strengths and two weaknesses of the Jersey City Public Schools. How should these weaknesses be remedied and these strengths reinforced?

Two strengths: First we have had an increase in parent/community participation over the last several years which is making the school system stronger. Second strength is funding that we will be receiving from the Federal Government.

Two Weaknesses: First we have grades that could continue to get better. How could we increase that? More parent participation at home. We still have old/outdated facilities for most of our schools.

  2. The new school funding formula presents the Jersey City Public Schools with serious financial challenges. How do you propose to overcome the projected cut in state funding? As a board, we can look into the programs that we have in existence and see which ones are the most beneficial to the student before we start making any further cuts to the budget.
  3. Do you support any form of school choice? What is your position on charter schools, magnet schools, vouchers, or district-run independent schools? What I am for is increasing what we already have in place to educate our children. If school choice within the district is providing a child with enhanced education I am for it. Charter Schools? Show me one that is highly successful. Vouchers? I do not support at this time.
