- Identify two strengths and two weaknesses of the Jersey City Public Schools. How should these weaknesses be remedied and these strengths reinforced?
Two strengths: Extra-curricular activities, and meeting the needs of students in tough circumstances.
Two weaknesses:
-
Updating Facilities, our facilities should be maintained and updated to compete with other districts.
-
Open enrollment should be denied. There is no neighborhood without an efficiently operating school.
- The new school funding formula presents the Jersey City Public Schools with serious financial challenges. How do you propose to overcome the projected cut in state funding?
People may hate to hear this, but the cutting of funding maybe necessary. The freeze on charter schools should be taken as a chance to re-calculate or re-plan our tactics.
- Do you support any form of school choice? What is your position on charter schools, magnet schools, vouchers, or district-run independent schools?
Magnet schools are great. I had a sister that graduated from the science magnet program in Dickinson. Private school vouchers should be limited, out schools can compete with any private school in the area. Charter schools are on a freeze for funding, and it should be re-evaluated.
